Daddy and Mabel in their Sunday best

Dustin Fisher is an amateur standup comedian, storyteller, freelance writer, and stay-at-home dad, all of which are just better ways of saying “unemployed.” He worked in the area of collegiate recreation for the previous 14 years and ran a day camp for nine of them, during which he got the reputation as being “good with kids,” which basically means he has no regard for his self image and makes a good target for ridicule. He is hoping to translate this lack of self-respect into a positive parenting style.

Dustin is in the MFA program at the University of Baltimore seeking a Masters degree in Creative Writing. He writes a weekly column for somuchsports.com called the Quick Inside Slant during football season. For more information, including upcoming gigs, videos of performances and another blog with no focus or regular schedule, check him out at dustinrecsports.com.

Dustin lives with his wife and daughter in New Carrollton, MD in a house surrounded by too many trees to get the Dish Network.

Also, Dustin is available in several different media, in case you’re interested.

  1. I couldn’t help but to chuckle about the “good with kids” comment. I can say that spending several summers of my childhood with you at UMBC was some of the best times I ever had. I always looked forward to leaving the VA boonies and coming to UMBC.

Because of people like you, I went out and joined the camp force at McD. There’s a handful of UMBC Day Camp kids there too. It’s a rewarding experience to be good with kids.

    Thanks, Mr. Fisher.

    Mabel’s adorable!!

    • Well I’m so happy to hear that our camp had that kind of positive impact on you. Good for you and I hope you continue the tradition. Stay in touch!

  2. Mr. Fisher,

My name is Jesse Andrist. I am a SAHD of three. I am starting a new business and would like to talk to you about sponsorship of your blog. Please reply if interested.
