The Staying (video)

Hey gang. Another thanks to those of you who came to the Father’s Day show I was in to support me and the rest of the storytelling dads in the DC area. The video from my show is online and if you have an extra 8 minutes and 21 seconds in your day, I’d appreciate it if you watched this. Or at least if you pretend you did and said how good you thought it was. Thanks!

  1. Dude. This is awesome. Heartfelt and direct and awesome. My wife’s been a stay-at-home mom for a while now, and you’ve put words on some things she’s tried to tell me. Somehow the same story is easier to hear when there’s a “non-traditional” someone telling it.

I totally respect the job you’re doing. And I’m pretty sure there’s going to come a night, not all that far down the road, when you look at Mabel and realize that, yes, you did do a great job. And yes, you are an awesome dad. And somehow, despite the opportunity cost and the sleepless nights, it’s going to be worth it.

    • Thanks, Pete. I try to talk about that which we all feel privately but rarely speak about publicly. Or at least I did this time. I appreciate the vote of confidence and there really already have been days when I feel like I’m doing a good job, but I don’t ever know if I’ll feel like I’ve done a good job. My buddy said he still has anxiety about his 19-year old son. It only means we care. And I’m mostly glad I can help you understand your wife better. That’s my ultimate goal. 🙂

Thanks for watching and thanks for writing. Take it easy.
